Roxanne Cubero, a 19-year-old dancer from Houston, Texas, now dances with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York City. As a Filipina dancer, she says that "to see powerful women of color dance on the stage the way [she's] always dreamed of dancing on stage...gives [her] hope."

Highlighting Differences |
Quote from Meghana: |
Meghana, and Indian dancer, got her start in dancing back in New Hampshire. She didn't feel too differently from her white peers in dance classes until she was much older and they began to wear makeup for their performances.
|
"I was doing my own makeup and I wanted to do highlight that year, and I put the highlight on that the rest of the girls in my studio were using. But that doesn't actually match, so there were white streaks going up my face."
